Alongside Brandy, Monica was the most successful of the new urban R&B female vocalists to emerge in the mid- 90s. By the age of 10 Monica was the youngest member of a travelling 12-piece choir called Charles Thompson And The Majestics. Discovered by Dallas Austin, who had worked with TLC, Grace Jones and Madonna, her first single, `Don't Take It Personal (Just One Of Dem Days)', topped the Billboard R&B chart in June 1995, and her debut album, Miss Thang achieved platinum status. The follow-up, The Boy Is Mine, debuted at US number 8 and the title track, a duet with Brandy, topped the Billboard charts for 13 weeks.
